Kenneth Kimosop Rutto

The man who discovered ancient hominid footprints on his land in

October 2008

“When I was growing up, one day as I was sweeping my grandmother’s hut, I saw a trail of animal footsteps embedded on the earth floor of her hut. I asked her what they were, and she replied that she didn’t know but she thought they were very old prints of some animals and that there were many in the area.”

Other bird and antelope footprints found at the Lung'ok prehistoric site or at Rutto’s Grandmother’s home situated 1 km to the west of the main site.

Antelope (gazelle) footprints found in the riverbed on the way to the main Lung'ok prehistoric site, just 100 metres away. They appear to be larger than gazelle footprints of today.

Kori Bustard footprints discovered in May 2022 next to Rutto's grandmother’s home where he first discovered animal footprints in February 2023. The footprints here are larger and deeper.

Large bird footprints – perhaps a Goliath Heron or a Marabou Stork, discovered in July 2022 just 400 metres away from the Hominid footprints on slightly higher ground.

Hominid footprint on a rock just next to the three footprints in the main site. Sadly this footprint has already been erased by water and erosion.

Enlarged Homo Erectus footprints at the main Lung'ok prehistoric site.
